The Baltimore Ravens’ top-ranked rushing offense carried them to the AFC Divisional Round this season, but their passing game, despite being led by likely three-time MVP Lamar Jackson, has room for improvement. Injuries to their receiving corps highlighted a lack of depth and overall talent at wide receiver, an area they could address this offseason with a major acquisition.
One intriguing possibility is Seattle Seahawks wideout DK Metcalf, a two-time Pro Bowler and one of the NFL’s premier deep threats. The emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba in Seattle and Metcalf’s expiring contract could make him a trade candidate. With no reported extension talks, the Seahawks might consider moving Metcalf to avoid losing him for nothing in free agency after 2025. For Baltimore, adding Metcalf would provide an explosive element to their passing attack and create more opportunities for their other stars, including Zay Flowers and All-Pro running back Derrick Henry.
Metcalf excels at stretching the field, tallying 489 of his 992 receiving yards in 2024 on deep targets of 20+ air yards, leading the NFL with 32 deep receiving targets. His ability to demand defensive attention downfield could open up rushing lanes for Jackson and intermediate opportunities for Flowers, diversifying Baltimore’s offense.
However, trading for Metcalf would require significant financial maneuvering. The Ravens have only $5.8 million in projected cap space and would need to restructure contracts or make roster cuts to fit Metcalf under the cap. Potential moves include restructuring deals for Lamar Jackson, Marlon Humphrey, Roquan Smith, or Nnamdi Madubuike, which could free up over $40 million combined. Baltimore could also extend Metcalf and backload guarantees to manage his cap hit.
While Metcalf would transform the Ravens’ offense into a three-dimensional powerhouse, the front office must weigh the long-term cap implications. If they believe Metcalf is the final piece of a championship puzzle, a deal could be worth the financial risks.
