LOS ANGELES — Veteran reliever’s tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers came to an end on Tuesday as he was traded to the Chicago Cubs, less than a week after being designated for assignment.
Brasier, 37, was DFA’d to clear a spot on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster for newly signed reliever Kirby Yates. Prior to the move, the Dodgers had been exploring trade options for Brasier and ultimately reached an agreement with the Cubs on Friday.
The eight-year MLB veteran posted a 3.54 ERA in 2024 but missed significant time due to a calf injury. Despite his solid performance, Brasier became the odd man out following the Dodgers’ bullpen additions, including Yates and left-hander Tanner Scott.
As part of the deal, the Dodgers sent cash considerations to Chicago to cover a portion of Brasier’s $4.5 million salary for the 2025 season. In return, Los Angeles will receive either a player to be named later or additional cash considerations.
Brasier had a strong run with the Dodgers, recording a 1.89 ERA over two seasons, highlighted by a dominant 0.70 ERA in 39 appearances during the 2023 season, which earned him a two-year contract extension. However, roster adjustments left no room for him in L.A.’s revamped bullpen.
