The Georgia Bulldogs are still searching for their quarterback of the future, but they may be losing ground with one top prospect.
Head coach Kirby Smart and his staff are among the leading contenders for the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class. However, it seems the Bulldogs are falling behind another powerhouse program in the race for his commitment.
Additionally, Georgia is facing uncertainty regarding the starting quarterback for the 2025 season. Gunner Stockton will compete with Ryan Puglisi, freshman Ryan Montgomery, and others for the job.
Looking ahead, On3.com’s Steve Wiltfong suggests that the Bulldogs are losing traction in their pursuit of five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. Wiltfong now considers the Oregon Ducks as the frontrunners to sign the Nashville Christian standout. “The top-ranked quarterback in the class and No. 4 overall prospect is considering Georgia, Oregon, and South Carolina,” Wiltfong wrote.
“While Curtis spoke highly of the Bulldogs last week, after speaking to multiple sources, I believe Oregon has the edge. He’s really bonded with offensive coordinator Will Stein,” Wiltfong continued. “Curtis has visited Eugene twice, and Dan Lanning’s in-home visit in January left a strong impression. This looks to be trending toward Oregon.”
Georgia faces competition from other schools like South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, North Carolina, and Ohio State, but Oregon currently holds the lead. Curtis, a 6-foot-3 quarterback, is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 class by both ESPN and On3, with a projected NIL value of $2.7 million according to On3.
