Young Texas football tight ends are set to benefit from the expertise of former Oklahoma State assistant Jason McEndoo, who recently joined the Longhorns’ coaching staff.
McEndoo, who spent a decade under longtime Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy, has officially joined Texas early this offseason, according to Horns247’s Eric Henry (Feb. 17). He is expected to assist with coaching tight ends and potentially a hybrid “Cowboy back” position for the Longhorns in the 2025 season.
With over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, McEndoo brings a wealth of knowledge to Texas. He was also a former teammate of Texas special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Johnny Nansen at Washington State in the late 1990s.
McEndoo’s college coaching career began in 2003 at Montana State, where he led the offensive line until 2014. Many of those years were spent working alongside current Texas co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski. At Montana State, McEndoo helped develop strong offensive lines that propelled the team to multiple FCS playoff appearances and coached guard Mike Person, a 2011 seventh-round NFL Draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers.
Gundy brought McEndoo to Oklahoma State to coach the specialized “Cowboy back” position, where he developed several All-Big 12 players and future NFL tight ends, including Blake Jarwin and Jelani Woods. He continued coaching the position until 2022 when he was promoted to oversee tight ends and fullbacks.
McEndoo’s addition to Texas is expected to be instrumental in the growth of the program’s young tight ends, including freshman Jordan Washington and sophomore Spencer Shannon. The Longhorns also welcome two highly-rated freshmen this spring, Emaree Winston and Nick Townsend, who will benefit from his guidance heading into the 2025 season.
