The Boston Red Sox are ready to compete for the postseason in 2025 after trading for Garrett Crochet and signing Alex Bregman this offseason.
Trevor Story is also entering the campaign fully healthy, as is Triston Casas — both who missed significant time last year due to injuries.
Questions remain about the Red Sox, but Pedro Martinez sees potential in the 2025 team. Speaking on MassLive’s Fenway Rundown podcast, the Red Sox legend suggested Boston could surprise people next season.
“I think this is an intriguing team,” Martinez told Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam. “We have enough talent to catch people off guard, both in the league and in the World Series. We just need things to fall into place—and, honestly, for some things to go wrong for other teams.”
Martinez expressed more optimism compared to last year, highlighting the presence of championship-winning players like Alex Bregman and Rafael Devers.
“We have a lot of guys with experience. Some have been around the league for a long time, so I think we’re going to have a strong team. The names might not match the Dodgers or Yankees, but I still find this group really intriguing.”
While the Dodgers made big moves by adding Tanner Scott, Hyeseong Kim, and Roki Sasaki, Martinez remains confident in Boston’s pitching staff. He believes the rotation and bullpen won’t be as overworked as last season, thanks to key acquisitions like Walker Buehler and Lucas Giolito.
“I love what I’ve seen from them so far, especially in the bullpen,” Martinez said. “I like the mix of talent, the depth we have, and the experience these new guys bring.”
