Miami Marlins’ star pitcher Sandy Alcantara is making a strong impression this spring. In his two spring training outings, the right-hander has pitched three scoreless innings.
FanSided’s Jacob Mountz recently speculated that the Boston Red Sox could emerge as a top contender if Alcantara becomes available on the trade market. “Currently, Boston has two dependable starters in Garrett Crochet and Tanner Houck, along with intriguing options such as Walker Buehler, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and the returning Lucas Giolito,” Mountz wrote.
“Adding Alcantara would not only give the Red Sox a new ace but also significantly improve their rotation depth. Entering the season, Boston appears to be one of the teams most motivated to make a deal.”
The Red Sox would be an ideal destination for Alcantara. They have a deep farm system capable of facilitating a trade for a controllable ace like the Marlins’ right-hander. Additionally, with Boston in the American League and Miami in the National League, a trade would keep Alcantara out of direct competition with his former team. Acquiring him would provide the Red Sox with a formidable one-two punch alongside Garrett Crochet, potentially setting them up for a division title and even a World Series run.
