Louisiana State University freshman pole vaulter Dillon Reidenauer, 18, passed away this week in a vehicle crash that also claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
The accident occurred at 9:07 p.m. on Wednesday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Bodhi Linton, 23, was traveling north on a motorcycle when Reidenauer, driving a Honda Accord southbound, attempted a left turn.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the motorcycle collided with the Accord, causing both vehicles to catch fire. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by WBRZ-TV.
While police did not initially identify Reidenauer, LSU confirmed in a statement on Thursday that she was the driver involved.
“Our LSU Track & Field family is keeping Dillon’s loved ones in our thoughts and prayers, as well as the family of the other individual lost in this tragic incident,” said LSU track and field coach Dennis Shaver.
Reidenauer was a standout high school athlete, securing second place in the outdoor pole vault at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Championship and earning a bronze medal in the indoor event.
