Boston Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony discussed why the team is so fun to play for.
The 2025 season brings heightened expectations for the Boston Red Sox. After making key roster improvements, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has also strengthened the team’s farm system. Several prospects have risen through the ranks, with outfielder Roman Anthony standing out as a top talent.
In an interview with MassLive’s Christopher Smith, Anthony spoke about his transition to the big-league club during spring training. “I think they (the Red Sox) do a pretty good job here of kinda letting us know pretty early and taking us through everything and teaching us about what goes on in Boston. But I think that’s what makes it such a fun place to play — is that people care so much, and that people are constantly talking,” Anthony said Saturday from the JetBlue Park clubhouse. “I know at least for myself, I love proving people wrong. I love feeding off of that. And I love the fact that Boston fans are always, even regardless of where your team is at or the record, they’re always passionate,” Smith reported.
Anthony also shared that he has grown close to new teammates Walker Buehler and Alex Bregman. Buehler joined the rotation on a one-year deal after starring for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. Bregman signed a three-year contract to play second base, a shift from his usual third-base role with the Houston Astros, where Rafael Devers now holds that spot for Boston.
With these key additions, the question remains: can Anthony and other top prospects like Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer make an impact at the major league level sooner rather than later?

“He said Alex Bregman ‘has really gone out of his way to take some time and get to know’ him and Boston’s other two top prospects, Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell.”
For Breslow and Cora, seeing these relationships develop is an encouraging sign. If Boston’s current stars can seamlessly integrate with this next wave of talent, a return to postseason baseball may not be far off. With the offseason moves now in place, the stage is set for the Red Sox to make their long-awaited return to the October spotlight.
