He wants to keep playing baseball but isn’t willing to do so for less than what he believes he’s worth.
According to The New York Post’s Joel Sherman, the former Red Sox outfielder has informed MLB teams that he won’t accept a contract below $3 million. If he doesn’t receive an offer meeting that threshold, he plans to retire.
He earned $3 million with the Atlanta Braves in 2024 but struggled at the plate, hitting just .182 with 11 home runs, 30 RBI, and a .569 OPS. The Kansas City Royals reportedly offered him a $1 million deal with incentives that could reach $2 million, but Duvall declined.
The 36-year-old was a key contributor to the Braves’ 2021 World Series run, hitting five home runs and driving in 18 RBI. He spent the 2023 season with the Red Sox, where he batted .247 with 21 home runs and 58 RBI in 92 games.
With spring training already underway and Opening Day approaching, it remains uncertain whether a team will be willing to take a chance on Duvall and meet his $3 million asking price after a disappointing season.
