BREAKING: Aston Villa signs a 25-year-old La Liga defender in January.

Aston Villa are actively seeking to strengthen their defense during the ongoing transfer window and have set their sights on Celta Vigo’s Defender.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Unai Emery’s side has identified the 25-year-old Spanish international as their top target for January. Mingueza, a La Masia graduate, spent two seasons with Barcelona’s first team before departing in 2022 to secure more regular playing time. Since then, he has impressed at Celta Vigo with consistent performances.

Mingueza’s versatility makes him a valuable asset. While primarily a right-back, he is equally effective on the left flank and can play as a full-back or wing-back. This season, he has been one of Celta Vigo’s standout performers, contributing two goals and five assists in 17 La Liga appearances.

Aston Villa, currently reliant on Matty Cash as their only natural right-back, are keen to add depth to that position. Mingueza’s adaptability and strong form have caught the attention of both Villa’s management and Emery, who is known for working well with versatile players and has strong ties to Spanish football.

Aston Villa have taken the initial steps towards signing Celta Vigo defensive star Oscar Mingueza in January.

Villa have already initiated discussions to explore the possibility of a transfer, though talks remain in the early stages. Mingueza is highly regarded by the club’s board and Emery, making him their priority signing for the winter window. It remains to be seen if Villa can finalize the deal in the coming weeks.
