As the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine nears, Texas A&M defensive end Nic Scourton is widely regarded as a first-round prospect. His blend of physical attributes and versatility makes him an attractive option for teams seeking pass-rush help later in the round. In Athlon Sports’ latest mock draft, Luke Easterling predicts Scourton will be selected by the Detroit Lions with the 28th overall pick.

This would pair him with Pro Bowler and former No. 2 pick Aidan Hutchinson, who missed the last 12 games of the 2024 season due to a broken leg but is expected to return for 2025.

The Lions struggled with injuries on defense last season, placing six starters, including Hutchinson, on injured reserve, which contributed to their early playoff exit. Adding Scourton would bolster their defensive line depth and provide another reliable pass rusher. Detroit already has Za’Darius Smith and Josh Paschal under contract for 2025, but Scourton’s presence would strengthen one of the team’s most critical positions.

In 2024, Scourton tallied 37 tackles, five sacks, and a forced fumble in his lone season at Texas A&M after transferring from Purdue. Though his stats weren’t overwhelming, his impact was evident, as the Aggies went 1-2 in the three games he missed, with their lone win coming against FCS opponent McNeese. His standout 2023 season at Purdue, where he racked up ten sacks and 57 tackles, highlighted his ability to generate elite production, earning him All-Big Ten second-team honors. His versatility and ability to line up across the defensive front add to his appeal for Detroit.

The upcoming combine in Indianapolis presents an opportunity for Scourton to boost his draft stock. While Detroit would be a strong fit on a contending team, he could be selected earlier. Easterling’s mock draft projects the Bengals (No. 17) and Buccaneers (No. 19) as teams potentially looking for edge rushers, making them possible destinations for Scourton.

Scourton is set to participate in drills and measurements on Thursday alongside fellow Texas A&M pass rusher Shemar Stewart, another projected first-round pick. If both are selected in the opening round, it would mark the first time since 2014 that Texas A&M has produced multiple first-round picks.
