Leeds United are reportedly in advanced discussions to sign Nottingham Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele during the January transfer window, as they look to solidify their squad for the second half of the Championship season.
Currently sitting atop the league table with a narrow one-point lead over Burnley, Leeds are keen to maintain their momentum and strengthen their defensive depth to bolster their push for Premier League promotion.
While manager Daniel Farke has expressed confidence in his current squad and downplayed the likelihood of major moves in January, the club, in collaboration with their ownership group, the 49ers, is strategically pursuing opportunities, with Omobamidele emerging as a key target.
According to The Sun, Leeds have initiated talks to acquire the 22-year-old Irish international, who is valued at around £10 million. The deal could potentially be structured as a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
Omobamidele began his career with Norwich City, contributing to their 2020–21 Championship-winning campaign before making his Premier League debut in 2021. After scoring his first senior goal against Leeds, he transferred to Nottingham Forest in September 2023 for £11 million on a contract lasting until 2028.
However, a significant injury in late October has limited Omobamidele to just six appearances for Forest this season, sidelining him for 12 games. This reduced impact could make Forest more open to a deal, giving Leeds a chance to secure a promising long-term addition to their defensive ranks.
