With Opening Day for the Cincinnati Reds just three weeks away, the team still had 61 players in big league camp as of the morning of March 5th.
However, by midday, the roster was trimmed as the Reds made their first round of cuts. Six players were reassigned to minor league camp, including top prospects Edwin Arroyo and Cam Collier. According to The Athletic’s C.

There were no major surprises in these roster moves, as none of the reassigned players were expected to be part of the Reds’ big league plans at this stage. While many of them have significant talent and potential, there simply isn’t enough time before Opening Day for them to carve out a spot ahead of others on the depth chart.
If there was an unexpected development, it was that 21-year-old Sal Stewart remained in big league camp. Last year, he appeared to be on a similar path as Collier and Arroyo before a wrist injury sidelined him for the second half of the season. He’s likely to begin the 2025 season with Double-A Chattanooga alongside them. However, Stewart has showcased his strong plate discipline this spring (3 walks, 3 strikeouts) and has hit a home run. It’s possible the team is keeping him in camp to further evaluate his defensive versatility across the infield.
Following these cuts, 55 players remain in big league camp.
