The Los Angeles Dodgers traded infielder to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday, receiving outfield prospect Mike Sirota and a Competitive Balance Round A draft pick (around No. 37 overall) in return.
Lux, 27, became a trade candidate after the Dodgers bolstered their infield depth by signing Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim on Friday. Kim’s three-year, $12.5 million deal includes a two-year team option for 2028-29, potentially worth an additional $9.5 million. The versatile infielder, who turns 26 in January, is known for his elite defensive skills and strong offensive numbers in the KBO, where he slashed .304/.364/.403 over eight seasons.
With Mookie Betts as their starting shortstop and Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor offering additional versatility, the Dodgers had the flexibility to move Lux. Lux returned from a torn ACL that sidelined him for the 2023 season to hit .251 with 10 home runs, 50 RBIs, a .320 on-base percentage, and a .383 slugging percentage in 2024. He played 139 regular-season games (117 starts) and 11 postseason games, contributing to the Dodgers’ World Series championship. However, he struggled in the playoffs, batting .176 with one home run and four RBIs.
Gavin Lux primarily manned second base in 2024, playing 138 games there and just one at shortstop during the regular season. He was under team control through 2026, having been selected by the Dodgers 20th overall in the 2016 MLB Draft. Over his five-year MLB career, Lux has hit .252 with 28 home runs and 155 RBIs in 412 games.
The Reds’ return includes 21-year-old outfielder Mike Sirota, who was drafted in the third round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Northeastern University. Sirota excelled in college, batting .324 with 29 home runs and 111 RBIs in 143 games. His strong offensive potential and youth make him a promising addition to the Dodgers’ prospect pool.
