JUST IN: Phillies pitcher may be adding to his pitch arsenal this spring

The All-Star Player adding another pitch to his arsenal could make him even more dangerous, especially after his breakout 2024 season. Given his existing repertoire, a cutter or curveball could help him keep hitters off balance and complement his sinker-changeup combination.

Why the Phillies want Cristopher Sanchez to stick around

Do you know which pitch he’s working on this spring? If it’s something like a four-seam fastball or a cutter, it could help him improve against right-handed hitters.

If Sánchez refines that cutter, it could be huge for his development. His sinker and changeup already generate a ton of weak contact, but a cutter would give him another weapon to keep hitters off balance—especially righties who sit on his sinker. If he can limit the hard-hit balls, he might go from underrated to one of the top lefties in the game.

The Phillies’ rotation is already loaded, and if Painter returns healthy, they could seriously challenge the Dodgers for the best starting five in the NL. Do you see them making any more moves, maybe for bullpen depth, or do you think they’re set?
