The Ohio State football team played the longest season in college football history in 2024, competing in 16 games after an extended four-game run in the College Football Playoff. Their season didn’t officially conclude until January 20th.
Due to the extended schedule, the Buckeyes have adjusted their approach for the Spring. They’ve already announced a later start to Spring practices, beginning only after Spring Break. Additionally, they will not hold a traditional Spring Game but instead will introduce a “Spring contest.” While the details of this new format remain unclear, fans should prepare for this to potentially become the new norm.
With the new 12-team College Football Playoff, Ohio State anticipates deep postseason runs, meaning late-season finishes could become an annual occurrence. As a result, these Spring adjustments may be here to stay.
