BREAKING NEWS: Red Sox Strengthen Their Pitching Staff With The Addition Of Veteran Relief pitcher

The Boston Red Sox continue to shape their roster for the 2025 season, adding another veteran arm to their bullpen. After recently signing former reliever Adam Ottavino to a minor league deal, the team brought in experienced left-hander Matt Moore on Thursday.

A former All-Star with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013, Moore has transitioned into a relief role in the latter part of his career. Although he struggled with the Los Angeles Angels in 2024, posting a 5.03 ERA over 48.1 innings, his strong performances in 2022 and 2023 made him a worthwhile addition for Boston. The Red Sox signed him to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, as reported by Jon Heyman of The New York Post on X (formerly Twitter).

While Boston made high-profile moves to strengthen their lineup by signing Alex Bregman and bolstered their rotation by trading for Garrett Crochet, they have yet to secure a major bullpen upgrade this offseason.

With most top relievers off the market, the Red Sox are focused on creating competition in their bullpen, hoping that a veteran like Matt Moore can earn a spot on the roster.

Moore fits the mold of a dependable left-handed reliever who can be effective in the right matchups. However, at 36 years old, questions remain about how much he has left in the tank. If he struggles in Boston, it’s uncertain how much interest he would generate from other teams. Still, this signing represents a low-risk, high-reward gamble for the Red Sox, and Moore will now work to secure a role in their bullpen.
